Photograph for the Thomson Reuters Foundation-Nokia Photo Award

The Thomson Reuters Foundation and Nokia are inviting aspiring photographers and photojournalists to submit images capturing the many aspects of women’s empowerment around the world.
This is an incredible opportunity for enthusiastic and ambitious photographers to use pictures to spark positive debate on women’s rights, and to help foster social change. The winner will receive the very first Thomson Reuters Foundation-Nokia Photo Award, and attend a Thomson Reuters Foundation professional training course on Mobile Journalism. Last year, courses were held in London, Buenos Aires and Tbilisi.

The Brief
What does women’s empowerment look like in your country? And what does it mean to you? Photographers are encouraged to explore themes such as: leadership, courage, passion, opportunity, innovation and motherhood.
Women do not enjoy the same rights and opportunities everywhere. Tell us a story. Show the world a positive image to inspire and trigger change.
Watch this video here for inspiration and submit your photograph here. Make sure you include a description of your image and how it reflects womens empowerement. Don’t forget to use #click4change when sharing!

"Start thinking of as many of your favorite movies as you can, and see if they apply to this pattern. Now think of your favorite party anecdotes, your most vivid dreams, fairy tales, and listen to a popular song (the music, not necessarily the lyrics). Get used to the idea that stories follow that pattern of descent and return, diving and emerging. Demystify it. See it everywhere. Realize that it’s hardwired into your nervous system, and trust that in a vacuum, raised by wolves, your stories would follow this pattern."
